Paris, France! Part 2

A crazy day!

The one where it all goes wrong…

The fire alarm woke me at 8am!  As we headed out the door, the gal in the room next to us peeked out at me and we both shrugged at each other like what is going on?  My husband and I raced downstairs (seven flights) and out the back door!  No fire.  We decided to get breakfast since we were already downstairs.  The hotel had a very nice buffet that we enjoyed several mornings!

The next crazy event of the day was a big heist at the Louvre! The thieves pulled off the 102 million dollar theft in 7 minutes!  They got away with 8 pieces of French Crown Jewels. The thieves were quite gutsy considering the museum had already opened for the day! Thankfully no one was hurt! Naturally they closed the museum until further notice.  I was worried and wondering if I would get to go on our designated day or would it still be closed?!?  Sadly, at the time of this post, none of the jewels have been recovered despite several arrests.

After breakfast, I finished getting ready for the day and had just told my husband “let’s go on an adventure”!  I was excited that we were headed to see the Palace of Versailles where Marie Antoinette lived!  That was when my husband informed me he was passing a kidney stone.  Long story, short, he ended up navigating the French health system while I stayed at the hotel. We were bitterly disappointed to miss Versailles but health comes first.  He was able to receive wonderful care despite the language barrier.

Meanwhile, I watched “Devil Wears Prada”, munched on granola bars and texted with family all afternoon.  As evening wore on, I got bored and set up my camera to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower out my window.  As I mentioned in my previous post, I loved that window! Seeing the apartment windows out there, it suddenly struck me that I was like Jimmy Stewart in “Rear Window”, except his lens was longer.  Later after going to bed I had to giggle because there was suddenly a yappy little dog just like in the movie!!!

What a day!

Did the trip get better? Did I ever make it to the Louvre? You’ll have to stay tuned to see!
